Exploring the Benefits of Laparoscopy Surgery for Endometriosis

I've had so many people ask about laparoscopy surgery and what it is, so I decided to share the little bit I know about it. Adding the disclaimer that I'm clearly not an expert, but it worked for me and could work for you too!
The purpose of the surgery is really what's important to understand so let's start there. To put it very generically, Endometriosis creates a less optimal environment for conception due to the build-up of bad tissue around the uterus. In a lot of cases, cysts are found as well. Even trying methods like IUI & IVF can fail due to these blockers. Laparoscopy surgery, however, cleans up your reproductive environment and creates an optimal space for your embryo to grow & thrive. Not to mention endometriosis could be preventing you from ovulating in the first place. If you have unexplained infertility, failed IUI and IVF attempts, and haven't exhausted the possibility of having endometriosis, find a specialist ASAP. Please note: Don't see a fertility specialist, see someone who specializes in endometriosis.
Ok now back to what laparoscopy surgery is. I think there are a few different types, but the one my doctor utilized is called the da Vinci Robot which after doing a ton of research seems to me like the one I would want if I was doing it again. Maybe I'm just biased because my doctor is 'the man.' At any rate, this method is done robotically through 3 tiny incisions that were glued back together. It made for a really smooth recovery and my scars are virtually non-existent.
Thanks to this surgical system, surgeons can perform complex procedures through only a couple of small incisions. It utilizes a high-definition 3D vision system and tiny wristed instruments that bend and rotate further than human wrists can. These little instruments then remove the endometrial tissue using cutting or ablation which also destroys the endometriosis cells. It's way more technical than that but that's the gist.
I know surgery sounds like a lot, but it truly wasn't. Don't tell my doctor but I had a glass of wine within 24 hours. Yes I know, that's not good for fertility either but it was needed. Not to mention, medical insurance fully covered it.
The reason why I continue to share my story is because of the number of women I've come across in the last couple of years who have undergone IVF, spent thousands of dollars, HAVE been diagnosed with endometriosis and weren't given the option or the education on ways to treat endo. Instead, they were urged to do fertility treatments. By no means am I saying this will always work and you won't have to undergo additional treatment methods, I'm simply sharing because after trying for over a year with no luck, I got pregnant on the first try post-surgery 🙂
